You can participate in the election of two Governors onto the Board of the Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

I have just received this email from Mike Mills, past Chairman of the Dartmouth Area Healthcare action group. He is advising residents that they can participate in the election of 2 Governors to the Board of the Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

I suggest it would be a good idea for as many people from Dartmouth as possible have a vote in this election to make sure our voice is heard on the Board of Trustees.

Good afternoon Paul

You may not be aware that an important local election is about to take place. This is the election of two Governors for the South Hams onto the Board of the Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. I think that our health is one of the most important aspects of our wellbeing. It is little known that we actually have a voice as to how our NHS services are delivered in our local area, and if this had been appreciated before our hospital was closed we might have been able to influence the decision before it was implemented.

In order to vote in the elections for the two Governor positions you have to be a member of the Trust. This is a straightforward process and costs nothing. If you follow the link https://www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/about-us/nhs-foundation-trust/becoming-a-member/ you can enrol and vote.

I am drawing this to your attention for two reasons, 1) I think it is important that more people are aware that we have representatives who should be talking on our behalf, but this is a well kept secret and thus the Trust is not effectively held to account for the services they are providing. 2) I feel it is important that people exercise their vote on this very important local issue. There are four candidates standing for the two South Hams Governor seats.

I am standing and of course would appreciate your vote. However I think it is much more important that people do vote and subsequently hold to account the Governors elected. If elected I would most certainly seek to publicise more the existence of these Governors and seek the views of the local population and convey them to the Trust Directors.

Whatever your thoughts please pass this email on so that the awareness can be raised and hopefully more people voting.

 Best wishes

Mike (Michael Mills)
